Wind turbines in Germany: sustainable investment with as little risk as possible
Investors can invest in German wind turbines. WindShareFund's energy also comes from Germany. But what about the wind farms of our Eastern neighbours? German policy is favorable for investors.
Germany continues to invest in green electricity
In the coming decades, Germany will continue to invest heavily in green electricity. The country wants to increase the share of renewable energy sources to 40 to 45 percent by 2025. By 2050, this percentage should even have increased to 60 percent. To meet this requirement, the German government wants to expand the onshore wind energy generated annually to 2,500 megawatts of wind. Green electricity in Germany is therefore a good option for a long-term investment.Wind turbines on land are more profitable than at sea
Many wind turbines in Germany are built on land; in the Netherlands they are often in the sea. A wind turbine on land has financial advantages, because it has a shorter economic payback period. That is the time until the wind turbine starts to generate money. On land, a wind turbine is profitable after eight to ten years, for sea it takes about twelve years. This is because offshore wind turbines are more expensive. Construction takes longer, installation is more expensive and more maintenance is required. The energy payback period is something else, however: the time in which a wind turbine generates more energy than it consumes. This payback period averages over 23 weeks. Wind turbines are therefore also very sustainable.German wind energy: guaranteed purchase at fixed prices
Investing in German wind turbines has more advantages. The wind turbines benefit from guaranteed purchase at fixed prices. This applies for a period of at least twenty years. This is laid down in the energy legislation Erneuerbare Energien Gesetz (EEG). At WindShareFund, sustainable investing is therefore already possible at a base interest rate of 3 percent. This will be deposited into your account every quarter.Investing in rotating wind turbines: more certainty
Despite the favorable sustainability policy, Germany has recently issued fewer permits for the construction of wind turbines. Most Germans welcome sustainable energy, but a small group fears nuisance. Lawsuits could delay construction. It is therefore advisable to only invest in existing wind farms. In this way, as an investor, you do not run the risk that the construction of a wind turbine will be halted or even not proceeded at all. WindShareFund invests in the Hochborn and Keilberg wind farms, among others. These wind turbines from manufacturer Enercon have been running for years.Opt for a transparent organization
Do you have plans for an investment in German wind turbines? Only work with organizations that are transparent. At WindShareFund you invest in ClimateBonds. With an investment of € 1,000, it is already possible to invest sustainably with a ClimateBond. Investing is never completely without risk, but WindShareFund excludes as much risk as possible. In the event of technical defects in the mill, the technician is almost always immediately on site. The wind turbines are also insured and WindShareFund only works with reliable partners.

10 October 2024Green hydrogen can contribute effectively to emissions reductionBy: Evertjan van Roekel
Green hydrogen often, but certainly not always, leads to CO2 gains. This is evident from research in Nature Energy by Kiane de Kleijne of Radboud University and Eindhoven University of Technology. 'If you calculate the entire life cycle of green hydrogen production and transport, the CO2 gain can be disappointing. But if green hydrogen is produced from very clean electricity and in the region, it can really contribute to emission reductions.'
